TruEpignetics Frequently Asked Questions

What is DNA?

DNA is what stores our genetic instructions — the information that programs all of our cell’s activities. DNA is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms. Nearly every cell in a person’s body has the same DNA. Most DNA is located in the cell nucleus. Human DNA consists of about 3 billion bases, and more than 99 percent of those bases are the same in all people.

TruEpigenetics gives you the tools to understand the DNA that makes you who you are. DNA+Epigenetics testing together opens new possibilities for longer and better living.

What is Epigenetics?

Epigenetics is the study of how DNA interacts with molecules with the cells which can activate and deactivate genes. Genes are expressed when they are read and transcribed into RNA which is translated to proteins. Epigenetic change can boost or interfere with the transcription of specific genes. These epigenetic changes can be influenced by nutrition, stress, and other environmental influences.

TruEpigenetics gives you the tools to to harness this wonderful sciences for life and well being.

What Should I Expect from my Epigenetics/DNA Health Test?

TruEpigenetics’ bioinformatics science team have identified the genes as well as the specific biomarkers that sit upon each gene that correlates to cellular ageing. This allows you to see a true representation of how your diet, lifestyle and environment has been affecting you at a cellular and genetic level, as well as the current status of your internal health. You should never judge a book by its cover, and the same can also be true with judging your health from an external point of view. While external characteristics can sometimes give us an insight into our internal health, in many instances we can simply misinterpret external factors such as bigger muscles, faster running times or eating a certain type of diet as they do not actually relate to being internally healthier. Epigenetics allows each of us to cut through the media noise of the latest type of training style or faddy diet and enable us to better ascertain which lifestyle changes we individually have to make to provide our “hardware” with the specific “software” our body needs to nourish our genetic and internal health and ultimately live a healthier, happier and longer life.

What is the difference between DNA profiling and epigenetic testing?

TruEpigenetics DNA profiling looks at a particular subset of 1,000 genetic areas specific to human health. From this analysis of your saliva sample we can provide over 300 genetic health reports. Your genetic makeup does not change over time. Epigenetics essentially controls the behaviour of your genes. Your genetic makeup is your blueprint at birth, your epigenetics can be changed through your lifestyle. Epigenetic tracking allows you to have never before insights into your Biological Age, as well as your Hearing, Eye, Memory and Inflammation Health. We’ll also give you expert insights in how to improve these results so when you provide more samples you can actively see improvements over time!

How long does it take to receive my results?

3-4 weeks. TruEpigenetics has the most advanced and comprehensive analysis of any genetics health and fitness company worldwide, so it takes a while. We are working hard to get our turnaround time down so check when ordering. Epigenetics tests take a little longer due to the complex science involved.

What happens if my sample gets lost?

In the event that your sample is lost in transit, we are happy to send you a replacement kit free of charge. Should you suspect, that your sample was never received by us, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. This might be the case, if you have not heard anything from us within 2 weeks after sending your sample back to us. In case of more than 2 lost samples, we might ask you for an alternative address to send the replacement kit to.

How safe is my data?

All our customers’ genetic data is triple locked. First, our customers are anonymous to us in the database. Each customer is given a unique ID number, it is only with this code that the customer can unlock their data, and have it displayed on their private health dashboard. Secondly, all customer data is encrypted throughout the data journey. So, if anyone were to capture our data it would be both anonymous and encrypted. Thirdly we store customer genetic data on our secure AWS servers that comply with stringent regulations.
